About Us
Daniel Knutson-Bradac studied acting and theatre at California State University at Long Beach and at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in Hollywood, California. He received his B.A. At Evergreen State College in studies focused on the audience/performer relationship. For about 15 years, theatre, odd jobs, anti-nuclear activism and political theatre was life. Children, family and work in information technology and government have filled that last 23 years. Raising kids brought life back into the present tense. Playing with them as they grew up filled life with joy.
Now that they are nearly grown and playing their own story, he's teaching improv classes and workshops. He's learning constantly from his wife, his friends and fellow improvisers and is directing and performing with the new not necessarily funny improv group.
Kari Knutson-Bradac, MSW is a counselor with 25 years experience helping people grow through life's challenges. With respect, curiosity, and compassion, she provides a safe, supportive environment for clients to address their difficulties and to create new strategies for living. She helps clients examine their thinking and the meaning they give to their problems, as well as behaviors that are helping or hindering (cognitive/behavioral methodologies and insight oriented). She may look at the dynamics of relationships clients have with family, friends, co-workers, and community (systems work).
She also may have clients work with their creativity through art, drama, or writing (expressive therapy). Her interest in improv, art and other expressive forms has enhanced her private therapeutic practice. She recognizes the power of play in therapy, art, and life.
Jim Rainwood started working my way through college driving a school bus. I discovered I was learning more about how people tick from the kids on my bus than I was in my psychology classes. So I dropped out and kept on driving--buses, trucks, and ice cream scooters . . . a decade or so later I finally finished my degree and went to work for the State. Now I'm on the home stretch of that career and finally in a position to put "FUN" on meeting agendas! I figure if we start our meetings laughing, we'll take ourselves less seriously and think better--maybe even live better--because of it.
The same goes for the rest of my life--since I tend to be a "human doing" instead of a "human being," I make an effort to mix in enough fun to stay sane. My thanks to all who give their time making improv happen!
Olyimprov believes that improv practice is good for everyone. The experience of play and co-creation feeds the soul and brings us back to ourselves. Improv's emphasis on generosity, cooperation, trust, and experimentation counterbalances fear, and releases creativity; These benefits are open to all people - at any age, any walk of life, and especially to those who have never done it before!.
Olyimprov's goal is to make the experience and lessons of improv available to as many people as possible.
Strategies
- Conducts Improv Classes regularly.
- Designs and develops workshops to bring the lessons of improv to organizations and groups.
- Designs and develops workshops using improv techniques to further personal growth.
- Promotes trainings and practice sessions to deepen our own improv practice.
- Develops Improv Performance pieces to explore interaction in improvisation.
How is Olyimprov different from other Improv Groups?
Many improv groups exist to perform improv, and this is a wonderful thing. Olyimprov exists to provide opportunities for people to integrate improvisation into their lives. When we do perform, the goal of the performance will still be to encourage people to integrate improvisation into their lives. Olyimprov believes that improv is a process of personal growth as well as it is pretty much the most fun you can have without getting arrested.
