Workshops @ Olyimprov
"Try Improv" Workshop May 15th
"Try Improvisation" is a 4 hour, 20 buck workshop filled with silliness, nonsense, play and stuff that is actually useful for your life. If you've ever wanted to try out improvisation or you have a friend that would, this is your chance!
This four hour "Try Improv" workshop at the Olympia Center will introduce you to the fundamental concepts that allow improvisation to happen. You'll get a chance to play. When's the last time you did that? You'll learn the transforming power of saying yes to each other, rather than no.
The Workshop takes place at the Olympia Center from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday May 15th. The cost is $20. You can register on line or you can contact us via email or phone!

Daniel Knutson-Bradac has been teaching improv around these parts since 2002. Back in ancient days, he studied acting at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in Hollywood. In 2008, he took a 10 day Impro intensive from Keith Johnstone in Calgary which changed pretty much everything he thought about acting and improvisation. It was a good thing.
Olyimprov believes that improv practice is good for everyone. The experience of play and co-creation feeds the soul and brings us back to ourselves. Improv's emphasis on generosity, cooperation, trust, and experimentation counterbalances fear, and releases creativity. These benefits are open to all people - at any age, any walk of life, and especially to those who have never done it before!.
Olyimprov's goal is to make the experience and lessons of improv available to as many people as possible and to provide opportunities for people to integrate improvisation into their daily lives. We believe that improv is a process of personal growth as well as it is pretty much the most fun you can have without getting arrested.
Voiceplay comes to the Olympia Center on March 13th!
A Day of Vocal Improvisation and Inspiration with Voiceplay founder and practitioner, Ella Topaz
Spend a day tuning up and composing yourself!
If you enjoy listening to music but always wanted to reclaim your right to create and co create by participating and being engaged in the process, this workshop with Ella Topaz may appeal to you.
Open to all regardless of experience and perceived ability, this day is about empowering you to liberate your creativity through voice! Whatever your usual creative medium, this series of body based vocal exercises and movements encourages you to come to your centre from where your unlimited resources and potential may be tapped into. Through practicing presence and heart centred awareness we open to the muse or our higher self.
Singing
is our birthright, and something magical happens when we sing together in
community. When you are one of a group of people spontaneously expressing
themselves through voice and rhythm in the moment, a profound alchemical
transformation can take place. It doesn't need to be complicated to be moving or
powerful or beautiful.
This is not about performance or how great our voices are, but it is about deep listening and connecting to one another, building trust and community, whilst at the same time collaboratively creating spontaneous, original, acapella music.
We can all do this! And what's more, it's really great fun!!
For more info please contact Daniel Knutson-Bradac on 360 545-3639 or email daniel@olyimprov.org.
The workshop is on Saturday 13th March from 10.30am-4.30pm at the Olympia Center.
Cost is $100 - $80 sliding scale.
How is Olyimprov different from other Improv Groups?
Olyimprov believes that improv practice is good for everyone. The experience of play and co-creation feeds the soul and brings us back to ourselves. Improv's emphasis on generosity, cooperation, trust, and experimentation counterbalances fear, and releases creativity; These benefits are open to all people - at any age, any walk of life, and especially to those who have never done it before!.
Many improv groups exist to perform improv, and this is a wonderful thing. Olyimprov exists to provide opportunities for people to integrate improvisation into their lives. When we do perform, the goal of the performance will still be to encourage people to integrate improvisation into their lives. Olyimprov believes that improv is a process of personal growth as well as it is pretty much the most fun you can have without getting arrested.
